Crazy how time flies, isn't it?

We had a party for David & Edi's 10 year wedding anniversary today. They renewed their vows at St. Jude in Beaumont first and the reception followed at the big house. They had a fun tropical theme going on so there were flowers, fruits, tiki men, and pina coladas galore! Not to mention the massive amount of food including lechon, palabok, menudo, sopas, salmon with asparagus, leche flan, and not one, but TWO cakes. (One for David & Edi plus another for Auntie Sionie's 65th b-day, which was yesterday). I still plan on helping Brooke out every once in a while when I have time, but as of now, I am kinda training my friend and replacement, Russ Furry, to be the intern for the fall semester.

So yeah, Brooke (my boss) told me that we had a press conference at Channel 4 for the Insure-a-Kid program that the hospital is donating money to on Thursday. She also mentioned that the press conference involved a lunch afterwards and she asked me to go pick up the food at 11:30 at Tokyo and then be at the Channel 4 Studio at the mall at 11:45.

So I headed over to Beaumont Thursday morning to pick the food up from Tokyo and when I walked in, there was Brooke, Kristie, Gayle, and Cindy shouting "Surprise!! Haha there's no press conference!" They TOTALLY got me! I swear I think this was the coolest internship ever in the world. It felt like it was my birthday all over again because they got me a cake and presents and everything! This was the first time I've ever had a surprise party in my life so I was completely ecstatic.

My yummy cake

Me, Brooke, Kristie, Gayle, & Cindy

Hooray for surprises...and for this internship! =D

Later that night, I went out to Easy's with some of my AdFed friends

My Electric Blue Martini...pretty, huh?

My dessert that I don't remember the name of, but it was FABULOUS.

Easy's kicked us out b/c it was closing time so we went across the street to Carlo's for one more drink and then we called it a night. Her new classroom is VERY nice! The building is brand spanking new so we were basically starting from scratch with the decor and whatnot, so it was quite a task. Cici and Nick have already done most of the moving in and around of the furniture in the room so Mumay and I were there for helping organize and decorate the place. It was a fun, busy day and I enjoyed it, but I was very tired after we were done for the day.

There's always room for goofing around a little bit while you work...hehe

Oh well...short, but sweet entry for today. Instead, my mom took a few hours to let her stomach medicine to start working and then she and I decided to head to Beaumont to do some shopping before we went to the 6 o'clock mass at St. Anne's in Beaumont.

We pretty much just went to Dillard's for a few hours because they were having a fabulous sale on clothes upstairs (I suggest that those who are currently in the Beaumont area should go take advantage of that bargain bounty). My mom also needed to refill on some of her Lancome eye makeup, and I managaged to get some for myself while she was at it, hehe.

Lancome was giving away free summer gifts with any $27 or higher purchase so we were able to get 3 darling red handbags full of eye makeup, eye makeup remover, moisturizer, lipstick, mascara, PLUS an adorable little makeup pouch! It's times like these when I enjoy being a girl.

After that, my mom said she was feeling hungry so we ventured over to the food court so she could get a slice of pizza. I only got a cup of Chocolate Mint Chip ice cream because I knew we were probably going to eat after church with my dad somewhere.

After our snack, I needed to go to the bathroom so my mom waited for me in the food court. Much to my surprise, during the 5 minutes I was doing my business in the ladies room, my mom managed to make a new friend.

The woman sitting next to my mom's left is Ms Dawn...a Filipino/Chinese/Hispanic lady who grew up in Hawaii. She was waiting for her husband to pick her up after he offered to get the car in the parking lot so that she wouldn't have to go out in the heat. (awww) Yeah, my mom makes friends at the most random times. They even exchanged e-mails (hence my catchy title reference to Frank Sinatra's "Strangers in the Night").

A few minutes passed and then my mom said goodbye to her new friend, we headed over to St. Anne's for church. I'm glad we were able to go because the 6:00 mass is youth mass so I always really enjoy the music. My dad met us in the church (he was a little late since he had to come in from work) so it was really nice to sit with both of my parents in a pew for a change. I'm not used to not being in the choir...hehe.

Next we headed over to Great China to eat dinner...yay! We ate sweet and sour fish (tilapia), ginger chicken wings, rice (duh), and some seafood/tofu soup! YUMM!!!

Look at how cute my mommy and daddy are:

Well, that was it for this sweet Sunday. I shall now go to bed! I get to show my supervisor the logos I came up with for our HealthWorks program tomorrow so I'll probably post that up tomorrow! Goodnight, all =D

Blue Bell & Coke...My kind of high.

There is nothing like a BIG scoop of Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla ice cream fizzing away in a tall glass of ice cold Coke. Sure, I still have yet to perfect the exact ratio of coke to ice cream (I did have a slight overflow crisis before I took this picture), but I know that the best solution to that would be a bigger glass. Unfortunately, a larger glass was nowhere to be found during the height of my Coke Float craving.

This has been a pretty laid back Friday for me. I turned in my first internship paper to Dr. Baker and I am in the process of cleaning up my room. I'm about to start organizing my Org Comm (Organizational Communication) binder for when I give it to Krystal. That is one class I am glad to be finished with.

I was supposed to go swimming with the kids (my quasi nieces & nephew) today, but 1, it rained like crazy, 2 Mumay is not allowed to go swimming anymore for the summer for some strange reason. I think her mom does not want her to get any darker...haha.

Check out this hilarious little video I shot last Friday when we went swimming. This is Marcus, Mumay, & Helen gettin' down to Beyonce's "Check Up On It"

Hah that was a fun day...they're silly. Here I am!

I have been pretty busy these days with my new internship for the Memorial Hermann Foundation. I now work for both Baptist Hospitals in Beaumont and Orange as an intern in the Business Development Department under Miss Brooke Vernon for the next five weeks! Isn't that exciting?? Today, I accompanied her and a few other members of the business development staff to three business meetings with the Orange County Economic Distribution Committee (OCEDC), Orange, Texas Online.com Associates, and the Greater Orange Area Healthcare Task Force Alliance (GOTA). Some of the discussions in those meetings were slightly over my head, but for the most part the materials discussed were actually rather interesting. There's nothing like a little scandalous hospital gossip and a free gourmet lunch to keep you alert!

The business development team at Memorial Hermann is trying to better reach out to the communities of Southeast Texas and I get to be a part of that for the next five weeks. Some of my responsibilities will include making posters, brochures, ads, and even some logos for specific PR programs that the hospitals are using to get themselves out there. It's actually pretty cool in its own little corporate way.

I just finished writing my first out of three papers I will have to write along with this internship. This whole experiencew ill get me my last three hours of credit for my communication degree! Woohoo! After this is over, I will get to embark upon my next adventure in the world of ART and my second degree in it. I must say that going for a 2nd degree is rather bittersweet because I could SOOO be finished with school next month forever, but I know that I need this if I really want to get to where I want to go. Two degrees in less than 8 years isn't so bad! I just have to keep telling myself that when I'm pulling some more all-nighters over the next two years in the COMM lab on two more NSAC campaigns...or (from what I've heard from my other art majoring friends), in the photo lab.

Oh well, I suppose that's all I have to talk about for now...but since no one ever likes to read anymore, here is a picture from my niece's first birthday that was this past Friday (July 7th)! Well, technically she's not my niece b/c I have no siblings, but I adopt all my cousins' kids as my nieces & nephews...

Happy birthday, Julia!!
